A Possible Serpent Effigy Form in Southeast Connecticut
Including A Potential Composite Serpent Head
I’ve seen potential Boulder-headed Serpent Effigy forms, but until a hike in Southeastern Connecticut last Thanksgiving weekend, I hadn’t seen a possible Composite Serpent Head built of a boulder and stone assemblage, as seemed presented in this intriguing potential Serpent Effigy form.

A little video to give you some depth perspective (no sound)…
The stone row and potential body of the Serpent Form rises up the ridge behind the Composite Head Form. Though there is evidence of minor damage in places, this stone row is remarkably sturdy and intact. Thus, it appears the horizontal undulations in this stone row are deliberate, and built-in features of the potential Serpent Effigy form as it rises up and runs along the ridgetop.

Thanks once again to Photographer Markham Starr for leading this hike. I recommend his book Ceremonial Stonework - The Enduring Native American Presence on the Land. And thanks to Harvey Buford and Dyane Plunkett for inviting me along on the outing.
