In my long-time alter-ego as a Music Director and DJ, I’ve played and talked about The Rolling Stones on the radio for over 40 years. This post does deal with me talking about stones. But. This isn’t about those Stones. In my other alter-ego as a narrator, I’ve been narrating audiobooks since 2006, when I started podcasting my first science fiction novel VATICAN ASSASSIN. And this post is about audiobook narration. But not science fiction.
With a new eBook edition out, I’ve been contemplating putting together an Ancient Stone Mysteries of New England audiobook. Narrating it myself — so, I will be talking about the Stones. Just not those Stones. And that will sound something like this:
I haven’t done an audiobook for Ancient Stone Mysteries before now because of how visual it is — there are over 500 photos and illustrations in the paperback, and in the eBook version as well, a “Print-Replica” eBook. Those will not translate literally to an audiobook. But I began to wonder if, having put out an eBook edition in hopes of reaching more people, an audiobook version might extend that reach further still. We shall see.
In fact, we’ll see here on Substack. This will be where, as a paid subscriber, you’ll get the exclusive Ancient Stone Mysteries of New England audiobook content as it’s produced, well before any official release. Going forward, not only do paid subscribers get the usual bonus content — the extra writing, videos and photos — you now get this exclusive audiobook content, too.
And I’ll get to see if there’s any interest in this as an audiobook. An upswing in people subscribing and supporting, as exclusive Ancient Stone Mysteries of New England audiobook segments are released, will make interest in the audiobook easy to gauge.
The first installment goes up — after I finish putting it together — following this post, as I share the book’s Introduction. The Introduction is recorded and produced — you heard almost the first 3 minutes from it above. There’s another 12 minutes or so more to go in the segment, about 15 minutes total.
Please let me know your thoughts. Does an Ancient Stone Mysteries of New England audiobook make sense? Is it worth supporting? Your call. I’m not going to cheap out on you, here, either way, even if it may be against my capitalistic “best” interests. If you’re a free subscriber, you should still be getting a bunch of posts, and photos, and video, and I hope you continue enjoying the experience!
