2021
2021 was a… year.
As the pandemic dragged on, I found experiencing amazing places and exploring possible sacred spaces helped maintain my sanity — and continued to help fool myself into exercising as well.
I also thrive on chances to discover and share new knowledge, always have, and so turning around and using word and video to tell you, to share with others, the stories of these places, grew naturally for me out of the Experiences and Explorations.
Circumstances led to a Summer Road Trip to some long-researched yet never-before-experienced sites: Serpent Mound, Lewis Hollow, Meadowcroft Rockshelter, Cahokia, and more.
Wanted to point you to my new article looking back at the year over at Medium: The Ancient World Around Us - 2021.
Did not mention in that article that I’m posting installments here on Substack of a longer-form look at the stone work found around Gates Pond in Berlin, Massachusetts, Rediscovering Kequasagansett — didn’t want Medium to get all jealous. Part one of that series Begins Here.

There’s much more to come in that series. I’m still exploring. Went back to Gates Pond a week ago on Christmas holidays and sought out the huge boulder known as King Philip’s Rock, found a little southwest of the pond — an impressive sight!

Did you know about my videos?

Made twenty-two or so this year. Love making videos of the places I visit. And that’s what I feature in my videos — the PLACES I visit, not me. Drives me a little crazy to look for a video of a place only to find I have to look past some self-absorbed host to see what’s what. I like to shoot quietly in the field, then write and narrate a voiceover after as I edit together footage from the exploration.
Felt like the places on my Summer Road Trip demanded a little extra in their presentation, but that was likely my brain playing some games as well. At any rate, those came out really well, but eclipsed work on several spots I’ve visited in the meantime. More to share to come!
Happy New Year!
Thank you for taking the time to read my posts and emails this year. I don’t do any real promotion, but word-of-mouth keeps spreading. If you enjoy what you’re reading or viewing, please share with friends. Thanks!
